We grade what Florida won’t.

Finding out whether a Central Florida restaurant is actually clean means digging through a state database most diners don’t know exists — one license number at a time. Rohan Kadam got tired of doing that before dinner. So he built the thing that should have existed already.

Central Florida Taste takes the inspection records Florida already publishes, scores every restaurant by one consistent method, and puts the answer where you can actually see it: a letter, on a page, with the violations behind it.

Why we exist

Florida inspects. Florida never grades.

The state does the hard part. Inspectors visit every licensed restaurant, write down every violation — the cold-holding failures, the roaches, the handwashing sinks with no soap — and publish all of it. Then they stop. There is no letter in the window like New York or Los Angeles. There is no verdict. There is just a public database, searchable if you already know the license number, written for regulators rather than for the person standing outside deciding whether to walk in.

So the information is technically public and practically useless. A restaurant with a dozen high-priority violations looks exactly like a spotless one — same storefront, same 4.5 stars, same glowing reviews. The one thing you actually want to know is the one thing nobody will tell you.

We read the records so you don’t have to, and we turn them into a grade.

What makes this different

Not another review site.

Review sites tell you what a meal felt like. We tell you what an inspector found in the kitchen.

  • Real records, not opinions

Every grade is built from Florida DBPR inspection reports — the actual violations a state inspector wrote down. Not vibes, not a star average, not who bought an ad.

  • Grades we calculate, and a method we publish

Florida issues no official letter grades. Every grade on this site is calculated by us, from public records, using one consistent formula that anyone can read and check.

  • Conservative dietary tags

We would rather under-claim than send someone with a serious allergy somewhere unsafe. A tag means we saw real evidence for it — when in doubt, we leave it off.

  • Hidden gems found algorithmically

Strong ratings, clean kitchens, and not enough reviews for anyone to have noticed yet. Surfaced by signal in the data — never because someone paid to be featured.

  • No paid listings, ever

Nobody can buy a grade, a ranking, or a place on this site. There is no sponsored placement and no advertiser who can call to have a bad score taken down.

What we promise

Our standing commitments.

  • Every grade traces back to a public record you can verify yourself.
  • We show the violations behind the score — including the ugly ones.
  • We tell you when a restaurant was last inspected, so you can judge how fresh the grade is.
  • We never accept money to change a grade, a ranking, or a listing.
  • We publish our method and our sources — and when we get something wrong, we fix it.
