What diners say — our read

This listing's ratings cluster at the two ends of the scale. Service cuts both ways here, averaging 3.8 among the reviews that raise it. Pacing is the next most common subject, in 32% of reviews (averaging 2.9).

If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (12 reviews). One subject never comes up here: how clean the place looks. Newer reviews score better than older ones (3.9 recent against 3.3 earlier), so direction is worth weighing alongside the average.

On the inspection side the picture is cleaner: DBPR graded this kitchen an A (99/100), with 1 basic violations. Whatever the reviews argue about, sanitation is not the weak point. DBPR last walked in on May 1, 2026. On health score it sits safer than 96% of the Lake County restaurants we grade.

The honest summary is that the evidence is mixed on both sides. Everything above is computed from the 22 reviews reproduced below.

Being from Philadelphia living in Florida was missing some tastes of home. Searching for a cheese steak here was disappointing until I stumbled onto drifters, looking over the menu and saw the usual traditional Philly cheese steak and had recalled what others have tried to pass off as that, then saw at the bottom of the description "we use amorosos roll" asked the server if this was true, she confirmed it. Well, I opted to hold on the peppers and onions keeping the mushrooms. When it came out it looked like an amorosos roll, took a bite and was transported back to my hometown, it was so delicious and flavorful, good quality chopped meat and nicely seasoned. Perfection of the highest standards. Until I find a place closer to home, I'll have to drive 2.5 hours for a taste of Philly; but as a special treat, it's worth the drive. Hats off to drifters for taking the efforts of being truly traditional in your Philadelphia cheese steak. 💕

Great place with perfect river view

Father's day. When we got there we had about a 10 minute wait. We came right after the initial lunch rush. Service was quick for drinks and appetizers. Food took at least 30 minutes. We were a party of 11, so kind of understandable. Food did not come out together, it came out 3 plates at a time, over a period of about 10 minutes. The restaurant was at about 40% capacity by the time we were served. Food was good, but, you could tell which meals were left sitting in the window before being brought out. Overall, we would return, probably not on a holiday. Scenery was right on the river, literally.

Awesome place on the river with good food and good people

  • June 24, 2026

Very down to earth and great food. Had the chicken parm sandwich and it was great. A bit of a mix up when my good went to another table, but they were quick about fixing the problem and they were all very kind. Drinks were awesome too. (They don't water them down for sure) (:

Don’t have any idea about any of the above because I was in a 40ft motor home pulling a truck. They have signs saying no RVs which if they don’t want my buddy fine, but their signs are a little late. You can’t read them until you are down there. It should be the first thing posted on the website all with signs facing east and west on the highway telling you-NO RVS. No REVERSE.

Food was great. Wonderful view of the river. Better be patient, as our server was very slow. Especially with our drinks.

We're riding bikes and stumbled upon Drifters. GREAT spot right on the Johns River. Food was good! Best ranch ever. Drinks were on point! The upstairs bar was just perfect! Will definitely be back! Service was FANTASTIC!!!

We are always looking for places to stop for lunch when towing our camper, and this seemed like a great option. The satellite view showed a huge parking lot and plenty of outdoor seating, which made it look ideal for traveling with dogs. Unfortunately, we won't be back. A few things contributed to the experience: • Campers are not allowed in the main parking lot. This wasn't a major issue, but it was a Tuesday and the lot was mostly empty, so the rule felt a bit unnecessary given the size of the property. • Dogs are not allowed in the outdoor dining areas. We travel frequently with our dogs and have never encountered a restaurant with outdoor seating that didn't allow them. • Signs with various rules are posted throughout the property, including restrictions on outside beverages, dogs, and RV parking. We had no problem following the rules, but the amount of signage made the atmosphere feel less welcoming and detracted from the overall experience. • The food was good, but the pricing felt high for the overall experience. We ordered boneless wings and Boom Boom shrimp as appetizers, plus one beer and one glass of wine. No entrées or sides. The bill was $44 before tip and over $50 after tip, which felt expensive for what was intended to be a quick and convenient lunch stop. • The menu also included several restrictive notices. Individually, these wouldn't have bothered me, but combined with the numerous property rules, they reinforced the feeling that customer experience wasn't…

I recommend this place to everyone.great bartenders, beautiful atmosphere

  • June 13, 2026

Been going there for years, first time at the new tiki bar. Not impressed with the bar tender at the new tiki bar. Up in the crows nest tiki the bartender up there has her shit together. Remembers our drinks after not being there for months. Don’t get me wrong the male bartender in the new big tiki is very personable, but a deer in headlights with 10 people at his bar. Give him time!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

It was our first visit. The atmosphere was Great. Our waitress, Sam, was great, very knowledgeable. The food was great, so good, I had to take half of it home with me.

My family and friends have been vacationing in Astor and dining at this establishment for over a decade, visiting multiple times a year and spending thousands of dollars here. We continued to support the business after the name and ownership change a few years ago, despite the food and service dropping to mediocre. After our experience this past weekend, we will never step foot in Drifters Riverfront again. This establishment has become distinctly hostile toward families. On Friday night, while dining with our young children, an older patron at a neighboring table stood over my two-year-old son and verbally insulted him. While the waitress was apologetic, management did absolutely nothing to address a grown adult harassing a toddler in their dining room. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we returned on Saturday. Because of a 20-minute wait, we walked to the bar area just to grab a drink to hold while we waited outside. We were actively ignored by the bartender, who then curtly informed us that children weren't allowed in the bar area—despite the fact that we were clearly just trying to order a round while waiting for a table. Once we were finally seated in the dining room, we sat for nearly ten minutes without a single staff member greeting us. Meanwhile, a party that was seated after us was greeted and served immediately. When I confronted the hostess, she claimed it was her mistake and promised to send a server over. I watched her for several minutes, and she never…

We ate at Drifters on a weekend, as we were staying at Castaways On the River right next door. Live music played all afternoon, and then switched to party-worthy country music in the evening. We sat beneath the big tiki hut on stools and a counter-style table facing the bustling scenery on the St. Johns River. We enjoyed watching the boats pull right up to the dock/slips, with views of the Astor Bridge. Our server, Misty (?), was friendly and attentive, always smiling. The food was so tasty that I forgot to photograph it before I ate it all! I had crispy, flavorful, fried shrimp and broccoli. My mom thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp tacos. They had great menu options. The other diners were all in good, festive moods. Fantastic experience, delicious food, great service and superb scenery!

We ordered an appetizer of cocktail shrimp. When they arrived, we were shocked at how big they were. Unfortunately, they were severely overcooked and inedible. The chicken parmesan sandwiches weren't much better. We were very disappointed with this waterfront restaurant.

Left my phone on the table and the owner brought it out to me! Thank you for your honesty! The food was delicious! Three, had the corned beef Reuben, and I had the Mahi. All was hot, tasty, and fresh! The atmosphere was relaxing and the server was terrific! We'll be back soon!

Lily the bartender is a 5 star person. I have a condo in Astor and I may not be in drifters for 3 months, but the minute she sees me she starts making my drink, with my bourbon, just the way I like it. She is productive even when it is crazy busy. If I owned a bar, I’d hire Lily.

Very uninterested wait staff, slow kitchen for food that requires nearly no cooking, sub par food.
