Community Rating
Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
Whatever the overall score says, the last stretch of reviews is the weaker one. Reviews mentioning the staff average 3.8 stars, so it divides opinion rather than settling it. After that, freshness appears most often — 24% of the corpus, averaging 4.5.
Behind those, whether it is worth the money is raised in 16% of reviews (3.3 average). The corpus runs from Jul 2025 through Jun 2026 — not a single moment in time. Of the 25 rated reviews, 20 sit at four stars or better and 4 at two or below. More reviewers landed on 5 stars than any other score — 17 of 25.
That matters because 12% of reviews raise cleanliness and rate it 1.3 on average — a complaint the inspection record does not support, since DBPR graded the kitchen an A (99/100). That result dates from May 29, 2026. The trend across inspections is decline. On health score it sits safer than 91% of the Volusia County restaurants we grade.

Delicious food and great service

We were very disappointed to learn they have an additive to the sushi rice to make it non gluten free. We took visitors there one whom is gluten free expecting to treat them to a nice experience. The server was nice but also I feel lacked some knowledge, she didn’t know what tamari was (gluten free soy) and also said all sushi rice is not gluten free (we where deciding to just do apps and go somewhere else) which is absolutely false!! In fact we have never had an issue with sushi not being gluten free. That being said, they did accommodate and make the fried rice with gf soy, and our guest ended up having salmon. The apps where delicious but the rolls where not up to par from the last visit. Just overall a tad disappointing.

We spent about $150 here and left disappointed. There were fruit flies throughout our meal, landing in our drinks multiple times and even on our food. This is a basic cleanliness issue that shouldn’t happen, especially at this price point. The staff was polite, but the situation made it hard to enjoy anything. I hope the restaurant addresses this, because it significantly impacted our experience.

So happy Ronin is open in my hometown New Smyrna Beach! Lived in Hawaii for many years and I am a sushi snob! Now Ronin is right down the road! Got my membership already for discounts and specials.

The best sushi !!

All of the YES! What a cool little place! Food WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know what has happened to Ronin, but it has gone downhill. The inside hasn't been updated in many years and it shows. There were flies all over the restaurant, which is concerning when eating raw fish. We ordered the Kobe Roll, Fantasy Roll, and Spicy Tuna. They were just ok, same quality you can get at the lunch special places. The Kobe Roll was not good. $20 and a very strange taste to it. Service was great though. Not at all worth the price.

Amazing dinner last night, Jordan was our server and she is absolutely fantastic. She had great recommendations and was kind to everyone

Ronin Sushi & Bar was a nice spot that we found based on previous reviews. The food was great, service was average, our waitress gave good recommendations to do while in town which was appreciated. Atmosphere was pleasant nothing too over the top, plenty of seating. The Ronin appetizer was VERY large, well worth the price if you have it with a family or friends. Sushi was fresh and made with quality ingredients. Would go back :)

Place smelled bad, me and my coworker purchased 3 rolls, all rolls came out on one plate all mixed up. Rolls fell apart, had to ask the server two times for spicy mayo and chopsticks. They also didnt bring us plates, expected me and my coworker to eat off one plate smh. Sushi was gross

Usually love this place, but we just had to get up and walk out because every server in the place walked right by us for over 10 minutes and never once said a word.
-
small and a little late with our table but they were slam packed. Super friendly great food.

I can't decide which I loved more, the super fresh sushi or the fabulous staff!! I have never experienced such wonderful attention while eating amazing fish and Kobe beef! Yes! Kobe Sirloin Tataki at a sushi restaurant! Ronin owners are super smart to serve beef and sushi together! They also are teaching their staff how to pour love all over their patrons! Thank you Tran for a delightful evening and the fabulous food. I can't wait to visit you again when I'm back in Daytona!! (Would you please open another location in Detroit so I can enjoy your incredible food every day?? ;o)

Fave was tuw sushi and the chicken broth. The plum wine was a sweet treat to end the meal.
-
The menu has been revamped and It was the first time I have been to Ronin in a year and I very much enjoyed it. The kobe sliders are a must. I also do like the sriracha edamame. The sunrise roll was great. The waitress we had was fantastic. It does take a while to get the food so just make sure to be patient. The rolls are worth it.

Hannah was our server, and provided truly exceptional service.

My son picked this place to celebrate a bit. It was very good. There was nothing on our plates we didn’t like. I really liked our server and thought she did a great job. But then she failed. She quite accidentally knocked over a glass of Sake. She helped with the mess, but never replaced it or otherwise made me whole (I had a small carafe and didn’t expect the carafe to be replaced). Management at a place of this level need to make sure the staff properly take responsibility for a mistake. It wasn’t a big one, but it was not addressed.

Really good sushi and chill vibe. Everything was fresh and tasty — I’d totally come back!
-
Best sushi in town by far! We have tried other places but always say nothing compares to ronin!!
-
The new Fantasy Roll is amazing. Bluefin and salmon with cucumber inside, yellowtail with avocado and paper thin fresh sliced jalapeños on top. Integrates a kimchi sauce. Just melts in your mouth with so much goodness. And now new Kobe skewer. Too good.
-
My wife and I on whim decided to stop in and try a sushi roll since we had been wanting to check out Ronin for sometime. The one sushi roll lead to four and a variety of sake being that it was lady’s night on sake. The sushi was absolutely fabulous, and we had the best time with our server, Jordan, and interacting with the sushi chefs since we ate at the sushi bar.

Fantastic food

Sunny the Sushi mastermind of all innovated items on the menu. Have to try out the new Fantasy roll. Light refreshing and total had a hot pop to it. Besides Sunny, the staff was amazing and felt like you were family. A must stop.
