Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
The newer reviews here read better than the older ones — 4.7 against 3.8. Reviewers who mention how guests are treated rate this place 4.4 on average — it is working in the restaurant’s favour. How much food arrives follows at 42% of reviews, where ratings average 4.9.
17 of 19 rated reviews are four stars or higher; 1 are two or lower. A third strand, price, appears in 21% of them at 5.0 stars. 5 stars is the modal score, given by 12 of the 19 reviewers who rated.
The health record runs ahead of the reviews. The last DBPR inspection returned an A (91/100) with 1 intermediate and 6 basic violations. That inspection was on June 2, 2026. Across its inspection history the kitchen is improving, which argues for giving it the benefit of the doubt. Ranked against Volusia County, it is safer than 55% of the restaurants we score. Among the items recorded were cross-contamination and dishwashing facilities.
With both signals pointing the same way, there is little to argue about on this listing. Read the originals below and judge the pattern yourself.

This place is awesome. I just had one of the best burgers that I've ever had and their hotdogs are incredible. Awesome food and awesome service. I always go here.
-
Service here has always been pretty consistent. The ladies here are always nice. Food is hardly ever consistent. Sometimes hashbrowns taste like burnt oil. Guess it depends who's cooking. The place could use a good old fashioned deep cleaning. And some help with the flies.
-
Absolutely love the gizzards! 🤤 they are delectable with the syrup! Come here every Friday night for a good filling meal! Great service! Reasonably priced.
-
Classic diner food with a ton of options on the menu. Food was great. Service was great. Will be back.
-
Best diner in Volusia County. It's a no frills diner with seriously great comfort foods of all kinds. Their breakfasts are especially great !
-

I try to come back to Big Rig each visit I make back to DeLand when visiting my alma mater. I even crave their pancakes when I’m back home; nothing compares to them! Not only are they huge, they are incredibly delicious! Full of that perfect pancake house flavor not very easy to achieve at home, very fluffy, and reasonably priced. Service is always a 10/10. When I go usually I have the same sweet waitress. She is so attentive and has that southern hospitality feel. There is nothing like Big Rig! I feel like I’m in the south and it has that no frills feel I wish I had back home. Sometimes even other customers will have a chat with you. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation while you’re here.

Always good food and huge portions. I always end up with a take-home box! The cornbread is to die for, it's like dessert. Keep up the great cooking guys!

Breakfast lovers rejoice!Worth driving to if you want a good breakfast. Next time someone suggests a big brand breakfast place, steer them here. The staff is super helpful to first timers and help you get what you want. I go just for the blueberry pancakes.
-
Great little diner. Staff were nice! Everything was good and the portions were amazing. I had Chicken livers, pintos, corn bread and rice. All of it was delicious!
-
The livers and gizzards are normally excellent but now there is too much breading, was disappointed, I gave it away

-
Classic American Diner experience, no frills, adequate service, but food made very well with giant portions. Their all day breakfast is good, but I prefer their Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla.
-
Big Rig is always a must when visiting DeLand! Tasty food with generous portions at a great price. There’s plenty of options to choose from the menu and I love that this place is truly a diner with real southern home cooking. Pam has been our waitress on several occasions and she is on point! She is very welcoming and always ensures our visits are a positive experience.

Went well

Just left this place from a horrible experience that I hope no one ever has to experience. Went in here with my family for a quiet dinner sat down to be questioned if we have a reason why we were parked in the handicap parking spot no hello nothing. We then said yes we do it is hanging up. She then proceeded to ask us again which in turn we said you don’t need to physically see a disability to have one! She stated she has every right to know loudly while other customers were around us so we said forget this then she walked away and was talking about us to another employee slamming things around. Didn’t catch her name due to being so upset about this experience and disrespect. It was no right at all that we were attacked like this I would love to speak to the owner of this so called racial establishment. I will never recommend this place to anyone at all after that! If I could put all zeros on this review I would in a heartbeat!!
