What diners say — our read

This listing's ratings cluster at the two ends of the scale. Where how guests are treated comes up, the rating that follows averages 4.6, so it reads as a strength.

5 stars is the modal score, given by 16 of the 19 reviewers who rated. The split is 16 positive to 3 negative across 19 rated reviews. Conspicuously absent: cleanliness, which no reviewer brings up.

The health record runs ahead of the reviews. The last DBPR inspection returned an A (97/100) with 3 basic violations. That inspection was on January 15, 2026. Across its inspection history the kitchen is improving, which argues for giving it the benefit of the doubt. On health score it sits safer than 79% of the Volusia County restaurants we grade. Among the items recorded were floors, walls, ceilings clean & maintained and other conditions of sanitary & safe operation.

Nothing here pulls in opposite directions — an unusually clean read. The individual reviews are below, newest first, if you want the raw material.

Dinner with a friend. Just copied her order and it did not disappoint! Veal cordon blue with mashed potatoes and red cabbage with a salad.

Quaint little restaurant with great atmosphere. Food is great and service is awesome.

Food was fantastic. It has a pleasant atmosphere. Everybody was helpful

It's overpriced for the quality. Schnitzel was adequate. Shrimp smelled fishy. They didn't understand their baked potatoes were old and no good, not just overcooked, and kept bringing me more to replace it. Cabbage also overcooked. Salad sopping wet. Lumpy booth seats. Loud and hard to relax.

Best food and drinks in town

Everything is always amazing. The prime rib is a must and the German potatoes are the best I’ve ever had. Come here once a year and look forward to it every year.

Great German food. Great German beer. Great service.

This locally owned bar grill was amazing. German food. The cuts of meat are delicious and they perfectly cook it how you want it. No drink list but that's kind of expected at a small bar grill. Waitress and owner are very kind and friendly. Will be going back !

Outstanding shrimp and service. Though they are primarily know for excellent German cuisine, they have upped their game with their shrimp dishes. Thank you Emmys.

    Fantastic food, service, staff, atmosphere!

The front part looks like a dive bar, the back looks like your grandmother's dining room. Could the building use some TLC... sure. But some might say the atmosphere is part of the charm. Either way, the food is probably some of, if not, the best German food I have ever had. The only thing better than the food is the soup they serve before dinner. If you like giant pretzels, they have those too. The staff have all been here forever and feel like they are all family. Try it and thank me later.

This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants because he can get a steak rare, and I love the pork schnitzel. The soup is delicious and I love the way they bring the bread out. We ended up sitting at the bar in the corner because they were so busy and got the sweetest waitress ever her name was Becca we normally asked for Joanne but she was off for the night. The bartender Hank made one of the most delicious lemon drop drinks I have ever tried. I just want to say if you want a HomeTown feel good delicious food great atmosphere this is the place you need to try if you are coming into DeLand or if you live in DeLand and haven't been here yet. The owner is amazing and friendly and helpful and will take care of anything that you need. My favorite person overall is Fran who sits at a cashier but she also sits you at a table. I highly recommend you try this restaurant you will not be disappointed. PS: Sorry about the pics but we we're sitting in the corner of the bar 🍸

Tried to come in and order some food to go, walked through the door at 815pm and hours of operation outside the restaurant say the are open till 830. The lady didn’t even allowed me to say I was ordering to go she just turn towards me and said we are closed. It was my first time coming and was hoping to try this place out but the rudeness and the staff seems to change the times of operations regarding on what’s on the door or online.

We were there on Bingo night and they had a limited menu. Really good home cooked food. Great service.
