Community Rating
Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
The 3.9-star average is misleading — almost nobody actually rated it that. Reviewers who mention front-of-house rate this place 4.4 on average — it is working in the restaurant’s favour. After that, wait times appears most often — 28% of the corpus, averaging 3.4.
Of the 18 rated reviews, 13 sit at four stars or better and 5 at two or below. The single most common rating left here is 5 stars (13 of 18). A third strand, value for money, appears in 22% of them at 5.0 stars.
The health record runs ahead of the reviews. The last DBPR inspection returned an A (100/100) and no violations cited. The visit behind that grade was November 3, 2025. That puts it ahead of 100% of graded kitchens in Brevard County. Nothing was written up at that inspection at all.
The honest summary is that the evidence is mixed on both sides. The reviews themselves follow, unedited and newest first.

The ice cream is ok, but the attitude from some of the older staff behind the counter is not. There’s a clear sense of superiority from certain employees, and it makes the experience unpleasant. Customers support this business, and we can just as easily choose not to. Being rude or dismissive is not acceptable. If you cannot treat customers with basic respect, you should not be working the counter.

Haven't been here in a while. I have been around here since 1963. I actually knew Delbert the original owner. After walking through the "maze" of barriers to get to the counter to order ice cream, as I went to order, I was told abruptly and rudely by the counter person "cash only". Here is a business tip..... how about a small sign somewhere before you get to the counter that says something like... oh I know.... CASH ONLY. Might save this place time and money, but in the future will save myself time and money 'cause I won't be back to such rudeness.

Best soft serve ice cream with excellent prices. Cash only

We were there with out of state guests on Friday May 30, 2026. We were never treated so badly and rudely by the lady taking the orders. First we were scolded for stepping over the blue line. Then my sister in law was unfamiliar with their twists variety and when she ordered a twist she was yelled at what kind of twist. My husband who was terminally ill was having trouble with his cone. My nephew went up to the window and asked for a cup and a spoon from him. This same crabby lady said they charge .10 but she would give him one this time. He then said while he was in line, they were discussing the lady who didn’t know what kind of twist she wanted. We have always enjoyed going there and bringing guests there. But things are just not the same anymore.

It's been the best for a long time and continues to be the best. When I think ice cream, Del's Freez is what I think about!

Always a pleasant visit. Friendly service. We travel a long way just to come here. Plenty of options.

I would love to tell you anything about the ice cream, but we never had it. We stood in line for 25 minutes in the rain and nowhere was there a sign that said they only accept cash. We do not live here, we are not from here, and we did not know that. The only reason I knew is because when I walked up to order my daughter's ice cream, there was a tiny post it that said we do not take debit or credit cards or tap payment. I looked at the guy behind the window and said you only take cash? And he said oh, yeah sorry about that. It would be great if under your open sign where you advertise your gift certificates and your t-shirts you also put a sign that says you are a cash only establishment. I would have loved to give a different rating after trying it, we love small businesses.... take this as a suggestion.

Great ice cream! This has been a staple of Melbourne forever.

Grew up right down the street and I'm a proud Mel-Hi alum! I've been a regular here since it was Tastee-Freez. I moved away 35 years ago, but whenever I'm back in town visiting family, I have to stop by. After 35 years, the service is still wonderful, the selection is great, and the prices remain impressive. Highly recommend!!
