What diners say — our read

Sorted by date, these 22 reviews trend upward. Service cuts both ways here, averaging 3.7 among the reviews that raise it. Pacing is the next most common subject, in 23% of reviews (averaging 2.6).

Plate size shows up in 18% of reviews as well, averaging 3.5. If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (13 reviews). The split is 15 positive to 5 negative across 22 rated reviews, with 2 in the middle.

Against that, the kitchen inspects well — an A (93/100), 1 intermediate and 4 basic violations at the most recent DBPR visit. DBPR last walked in on June 11, 2026. Ranked against Lake County, it is safer than 74% of the restaurants we score. The citations behind that grade include employee health knowledge and dishwashing facilities.

Neither signal is decisive on its own here, which is why both are shown. Read the originals below and judge the pattern yourself.

This was a great lunch spot with authentic Cuban cuisine and super nice staff. It's one of a very few restaurants open on Tuesdays in Mt. Dora.

Regular stop for us when we visit town. So many things on the menu look great! I want to try everything. It’s hard for me to resist the Garlic Cuban Sandwich and the beans & rice.

As a former South Florida/Miami resident of 30 years, who has also been to Cuba, I have to say this is some of the BEST if not THE BEST Cuban Food/Latin I've EVER HAD. The mofongo with Oxtail in Creole Sauce..just Magical... Boiled yuca in garlic sauce, OUTSTANDING, Breaded Chicken Cutlet and Arroz con gandules (pigeon peas), Phenomenal, the friend plantains, PERFECTION... from appetizer to dessert 10 out of 10... make that 100 out of Ten!! Oh and do try the Guava n Cheese pastries for dessert... chef was gracious to send them out for us because we loved the food so much!! A Fan for LIFE!! Oh and GREAT SERVICE TO BOOT!!! And last...THE PORTIONS...I came starving and tried my best to finish my meal and barely made it halfway.

Food is great, and the servers are friendly

I’m Cuban and I recently moved to DeLand from Miami. We decided to go with my wife and father to Las Palmas to celebrate Father’s Day. We decided to drive for 50 minutes over to Mt Dora because the only Cuban place in DeLand is not what I consider really authentic. I knew by looking at menu, this was going to be a good place. We started with the croquetas and mariquitas, both were very good. I had the Vaca Frita and my wife had the roast pork. Both dishes are staples of Cuban cooking and were right on. Just like my mom used to make. The boiled yuca was very good and portions were very generous. We finished with flan and mango cheesecake which were both delicious and Cuban coffee that had the perfect amount of sugar. The restaurant was very busy but the service was fast considering how busy it was. Special thanks to our server Vanessa who did a great job. She was pleasant and attentive. We’ll definitely be back.

    Great food

This is my third visit and the worst experience. I ordered churrasco expecting a good dish, but it wasn't the best. It was overcooked, it seemed like leftovers from the day before, and the plantains weren't fresh. On the other hand, the rice was good. The service was terrible. They refused to remove an insect that was flying over the food. Awful service.

una comida espectacular y un servicio de excelencia

  • June 7, 2026

Came to have lunch and a pleasant experience and was extremely disappointed. Was seated outside as requested, waited about 10 minutes before having a drink order taken. Ordered drinks and food at the same time. Watched 2 other tables get seated and food delivered before I got up asking about our food. Our order was simple and half the food was pre prepared. Still waited 10 more minutes for my food. As a Cuban, food was sub par at best. On top of that after waiting over 45 minutes for my order, the waitress, which so happened to be the "manager", gave me a free 5 dollar dessert to make up for the terrible service. That did not cover ruining my afternoon. Once the FULL bill came I asked for it to be discounted be 15 dollars. The owner which was on site refused to see me and kept sending employees out. The owners needs a lesson on business management and customer service bc nobody should have to wait 45 minutes for food and not even be told once that the kitchen is backed up. All in all a terrible experience and was even threatened with the police when I argued a discrepancy with the bill due to the terrible service and extremely long wait time for some pre-made food. I will definitely never be recommending this place nor coming back here again. It's too bad that this review took a third of the time to answer then my actual service in the restaurant and the sad part is that even if you were slammed packed nobody came to my table and say hey we're busy your food's going to be a…

$7 for two tostones.? You should be ashamed to yourselves. Most over priced Cuban food I’ve ever had.

  • June 5, 2026

I have been coming here for years. I always ordered the pork chunks with onion, black beans and rice and plantains. There is less pork now than in the past and the onions are pre-cooked and sauteed instead of cooked fresh to order. The onions are very mushy now. Last week they were over salted. The Margueriteas are great and Ali did a great job.

    Best chicharones.

    Fantastic

  • May 31, 2026

I went in and came away very disappointed with the quantity of food served for the high prices . I ordered rabo encencido with a cost of $34 and ropa vieja for around $25 and both portions were so small that I would never go back again nor I recommend it to my family and friends.

Food was over cooked.and took forever to get although the place was fairly empty. Cook got the order wrong delivered wrong sides in two out of three meals. The server was nice and efficient and apologized. The problem is in the kitchen. It was very noisy with a child screaming periodically through our meal. With so many choices in Mount Dora we won't return.

Great Cuban restaurant. The food was amazing. The service was great. The only issue was that they don’t allow firearms or weapons in the restaurant. That will keep me from going back.

The food has changed from non assuming and functional plating to more Instagram-y. The mofonfo, for example. Instead of getting the usual half circle of mofongo with your choice of stuffing, it now comes in a "pilon", a mortar and pestle style. Its looks pretty, but you have to dig the actual mofongo out from under and end up with all the toppings on the side. The stuffing which is now more like a topping, what's generous but the actual mofongo did not feel to be as much. The service, the friendly, was painfully slow. A meal for three consisting of two appetizers, three mofongos and one dessert took two hours. 4:15 - 6:15 or so, which was not even peak dinner time. The restaurant is always pretty loud, but its par for the course with many Hispanic restaurants.

Not very good all around. The restaurant always seems busy, so I took it as a sign the food must be good. In all honesty, the food didn't look or taste fresh like it was made the same day. The flavor of some of the food did not taste like it was supposed to which added to my suspicion that some of the food was not fresh or out dated. We also had to swat flies the entire time we were at the table. The service was also lacking. We waited a while to have our drink and order taken and we didn't see our server again until it was time to pay for our food. The server didn't ask how our food was or even say thank you or bye when we checked out. Between the atmosphere, food, and service, we will not be back. All of us had disagreeable stomachs after eating there. We were not the only people that had issues with the food or trying to find someone to give us the check and pay.
