BREAKERS (THE)

The crowd and the inspector disagree about BREAKERS (THE), and it isn't close: 4,625 reviewers settle on 4.6 stars, while its latest health inspection lands at an F, 51/100.

That F comes from 5 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 3 basic violations cited on March 25, 2026. It currently ranks near the bottom of Volusia County on health score. And the direction isn't reassuring: its recent inspections have been sliding, not recovering. What diners say — our read

The crowd and the kitchen disagree here, and the gap is wide. Where service comes up, the rating that follows averages 4.7, so it reads as a strength.

One subject never comes up here: plate size. Older reviews score better than newer ones (4.2 recent against 5.0 earlier), so direction is worth weighing alongside the average. If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (14 reviews).

The inspection record is the harder read. DBPR graded this kitchen an F (51/100) on 5 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 3 basic violations — a verdict the review average does not reflect. DBPR last walked in on March 25, 2026. The trend across inspections is decline. On health score it sits safer than 1% of the Volusia County restaurants we grade. The citations behind that grade include cross-contamination and bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat food.

What to do with that is a judgement call — the reviews describe the experience, the grade describes the conditions behind it. The individual reviews are below, newest first, if you want the raw material.

Mary was a great server!! She accommodated us arriving 30 minutes before close. As a group of 7 she greeted us all with a friendly face and amazing service. Food was also great.

Returning customers here. We have been coming here our whole life and came here over 2 hours before close tonight and were treated like we came in right before closed by the waitress, spoke to us like we were stupid, asked for our order 3 times in 5 minutes to rush us out. The random animosity was in the air, anyways we didn’t feel welcome maybe she had a bad day but that isn’t our problem. Food was good as always but shrimp was over done like last year we were here. Kindness and tone goes a long way and we aren’t hard to please.

A must in NSB. We can't say enough good things. Good food. Good people. Good times! The atmosphere and views are worth checking out. Been going there for decades, every year when we go to NSB with extended family. GO!

Management and servers are super polite. I sat alone at a table by the window where me and my family used to sit and since it wasn’t crowded nobody bothered me or told me to move tables which meant a lot to me. I don’t have my family anymore but it was good to sit at our table and have their seats pulled out . Been coming here all my life

You absolutely cannot beat the location of The Breakers. We recently drove the car right out onto the sand at New Smyrna for the day and walked up here for a bite. The ocean views are incredible and the vibe is exactly what you want from a beachside spot. I’m pretty particular about my food (strict 'no pickles, no onions' rule!), and the kitchen and staff nailed it without a single issue. Great food, cold drinks, and a perfect ocean breeze. Highly recommend!

Best burger in this area! Many kinds on the menu from which to choose. Also got the shrimp skewers as an appetizer. A little spicier than we expected, but also great. Friendly, prompt service despite the busy lunch time. We ate at the bar, overlooking the ocean. Great way to start a weekend in New Smyrna Beach!
