Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
The headline average flatters this listing; the recent half does not. Where service comes up, the rating that follows averages 4.5, so it reads as a strength.
Of the 26 rated reviews, 20 sit at four stars or better and 5 at two or below. One subject never comes up here: how clean the place looks. If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (18 reviews).
The health record runs ahead of the reviews. The last DBPR inspection returned an A (96/100) with 1 intermediate and 1 basic violations. DBPR last walked in on January 6, 2026. On health score it sits safer than 66% of the Orange County restaurants we grade. The citations behind that grade include employee personal belongings.
Both measures agree, which is the least complicated version of this page. Everything above is computed from the 26 reviews reproduced below.

It has a great and fun atmosphere. We really enjoyed the experience and the service was excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back more often and highly recommend it.

This place is a VIBE. I love a setting that knows how to do proper warm lighting and niche and fancy esthetics and Mathers nails that. I haven’t tried any drinks , only some of the appetizers which were a delicious little treat after already being out for awhile. Second floor had a live sax player and the jazzy sounds and old school vibes really make it seem your not in Orlando but in New Orleans

Nice vibe and atmosphere except for the club downstairs.!!!!!! It was hard to listen to the band and relax but nice place.

The pizza is our favorite in town, but we are getting tired of competing with the house 🪰 swarming around our heads, landing in our food and drinks. Shakai doesn't have this problem.

The host Christian who was shorter than me a 5’3 girl, was very distasteful. We walked up handed him our IDs he immediately told us to leave. Disgusting behavior. I come to mathers all the time, will not be going back and will be telling everyone how distasteful mathers has turned into. Tiny man Christian said he needed to look out for girls like “us” to not let in. Yeah we we’re also told to look after tiny leprechauns with small egos. So pathetic.

Tried to go with friends, who had been talking all day about how great this place was and what exactly we were going to order, etc. After hyping it up for hours, getting through the door, and climbing the flights of narrow stairs, we were turned away as soon as the doorman saw that at least one person in our group was visibly trans. They said it was about dress code, but the only person they could find a semi-valid dress code item to nitpick had already been allowed through the door. I don't buy it for a second. I strongly believe they would have absolutely let the rest of us go through if that/those member(s) of our group hadn't been present. So they turned away four paying customers and hundreds of dollars in revenue on a slow weeknight, either because of a completely nonsensical dress code, or simply for prejudice. Either way, it was ridiculous.

Not my first time to Mathers, but it will be my last. Attended a Broadway show at Dr. Phillips Center and walked up to Mathers for an evening drink and some food. We were taking friends to Mathers for their first time. We were politely greeted at the door and they checked our IDs and we walked up the flights of stairs to the top-floor bar. Only then we're we turned away because "men are required to wear closed-toed shoes". Mind you, I'm wearing dark blue slacks and $100 leather sandals. I looked respectful enough for Dr Philip Center. It's Florida, and a slow Thursday night. I'm fine having a dress code but it needs to be clearly displayed and enforced at the door. By the time I've walked up the stairs it's too late. They could have extended a courtesy and asked me to dress differently next time. They made it so awkward, I actually thought they were not actually being serious. And it should be enforced regardless of gender or sexual orientation. I don't care if they have an "old fashioned" theme, there are plenty of reasons why the way I dress is none of their business. I won't go again, and I will stop recommending Mathers to others. While it's not my case, if you're someone who's gender non-conforming I would suggest you review their dress code and make sure you're expressing according to their standards if you choose to go to Mathers. I’ve been coming to this bar for quite some time, and every visit has been a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is always great, the staff is friendly and attentive, and the service is consistently excellent. The drinks are fantastic, and there’s always a welcoming vibe that keeps me coming back. It’s one of those places where you can count on having a great time every single visit. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great local spot! 🍻⭐️👏

Marcelo was the best! Super knowledgeable about the cocktails. We were visiting and he made us feel so welcome. Definitely recommend Mathers!!

Just moved here from California and wanted to celebrate my birthday. Walked around downtown and stumbled across this place. From the warm welcome from the hostess, to the immediate hospitality from Ludwig the Bartender and Andy the Barback, and more than perfect last word I ordered. Cheers to 28! Would definitely recommend to stop by this place for any sort of occasional. Great ambiance! Shout out to the manager and owner!

I really struggled with whether or not to give five stars. The atmosphere is like NINE stars, but the drink menu is very disappointing. So incredibly limited and underwhelming. A beautiful space like this deserves better. The owners need to invest some time and put together a real craft cocktail menu that’s representative of the wonderful ambience that they’ve created. Basic flavored syrups and St. Germaine isn’t going to get you there. But again, INSANELY BEAUTIFUL SPACE!

Not really any food.

I’ve been there a few times and it’s really just a superficial place. Drinks are okay, doesn’t really have authentic speakeasy vibes. Just has this corporate feeling that reeks of fake
