Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
This listing's ratings cluster at the two ends of the scale. Reviews mentioning service average 3.6 stars, so it divides opinion rather than settling it. Serving size follows at 39% of reviews, where ratings average 4.4.
If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (12 reviews). Behind those, how long an order takes is raised in 33% of reviews (3.5 average). Of the 18 rated reviews, 14 sit at four stars or better and 3 at two or below.
Against that, the kitchen inspects well — an A (100/100), nothing cited at the most recent DBPR visit. DBPR last walked in on January 14, 2026. The trend across inspections is decline. That puts it ahead of 100% of graded kitchens in Volusia County. No violations were recorded at that visit, which is the cleanest result available.
Both measures agree, which is the least complicated version of this page. Everything above is computed from the 18 reviews reproduced below.

Food and service was great. The menu is quite large, with several unique dishes compared to similar restaurants 😋 They came recommended by the hotel we stayed at, and we're glad we asked.

The girl who took my order was super nice and pretty the paper says her name was liddy, service is rlly nice and the place is so pretty but my burrito was soggy?? I just took it out the tortilla and ate it like a rice bowl tho so i guess its fine but by soggy i mean a literal puddle next to it and it wasn't fully wrapped. The taste is a solid 8.5 tho i mixed it all together luv it❤️

We’ve been loyal customers of La Catrina for years — easily 50–60 visits — and it used to be one of our favorite spots in Ormond Beach. Unfortunately, the experience has changed significantly. It really feels like management has shifted to the son, and the entire service culture has declined with it. On our most recent visit, the service was almost nonexistent. Our fajitas came out flaming hot, but we waited so long for tortilla shells that everything was cold by the time we could eat. I even asked the manager directly, and all he said was “They’re coming” before walking away — no follow‑up, no urgency. Our server barely checked on us the entire meal. What made the experience worse was hearing staff make unprofessional comments about customers, including remarks about people’s age and appearance. That’s something we never experienced here before, and it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The food is still good — the kitchen continues to do their part — but the service and professionalism have dropped so far that it overshadows everything else. We truly hope the original management steps back in and restores the level of customer service this restaurant used to be known for.

I never leave reviews but this place was 1000/10!! We were in town visiting from the Miami area (where we have plenty of Mexican places to eat at)… and let me just say that this place did not disappoint. If anything, this place exceeded our expectations!! We have visited Daytona for the past 3 summers and usually have a hard time finding good restaurants and this will be our new go to! Come try their tacos, margaritas and mojitos, you won’t be disappointed!

Hands down, La Catrina, is Hubby & I favorite Mexican restaurant in Daytona / Ormond / Port Orange area. Food is consistently flavorful, authentic. If you (think) you like salas' you MUST check this place out! Grab a tasty horchata!

Portions were smaller then before but no decrease on the prices. Food temperature was warm enough not to be cold. Service was slow and nonchalant. The mosquitoes were vicious!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exceptional Food, Speed, and Service! This was our second visit to La Catrina Cocina Mexicana, and it certainly won’t be our last. They consistently hit the mark on every front! The Food & Value: The food is absolutely excellent and served incredibly fast. Their lunch specials offer fantastic value for the money. The Atmosphere: The indoor dining area has a great, fun energy, and they also have a very nice outdoor seating area with plenty of tables if you prefer to dine al fresco. The Staff: Exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and courteous from the moment you walk in. Highly recommend stopping by if you want great Mexican food, quick service, and a wonderful atmosphere!

Stopped here in our way home from the beach as we love the La fiesta in port orange. Please don’t waste your time… they served warm marinara sauce as salsa and when we asked the waiter and he said nope that’s salsa.. we didn’t stay because if you can’t make goodish salsa I can’t imagine how your food taste.
