What diners say — our read

Worth separating two things on this listing: how the food is received, and how the kitchen inspects. Reviews mentioning front-of-house average 3.3 stars, so it divides opinion rather than settling it. After that, freshness and temperature appears most often — 25% of the corpus, averaging 3.2.

A third strand, how much food arrives, appears in 15% of them at 5.0 stars. Of the 20 rated reviews, 10 sit at four stars or better and 8 at two or below. The single most common rating left here is 5 stars (8 of 20).

The health record runs ahead of the reviews. The last DBPR inspection returned an A (96/100) with 4 basic violations. The visit behind that grade was February 4, 2026. The trend across inspections is decline. That puts it ahead of 86% of graded kitchens in Lake County. For specifics, the last inspection cited dishwashing facilities and food-contact surfaces clean and sanitized.

If cleanliness is what you care about, the reviews are the better guide here; if it is the kitchen, the grade is. The reviews themselves follow, unedited and newest first.

I have ordered the ceviche here before. They use tilapia and it was very good. Today they did not have the ceviche made so they microwaved a piece of tilapia, chopped it up and put it in lime juice with dice tomatoes and jalapeno. It was still warm and dried out so bad I could not eat it. I explained the problem and the server agreed that that was how it was made. I then ordered mahi mahi tacos. She brought out tacos with the same tilapia and some cabbage and just smothered it in some orange sauce. I told her it was the same fish and she said yes.. what else can I say. Such a shame because the ceviche was good last time.

Good service, nice staff, nice location, well decorated, but our food was poor to mediocre. Better tasting competitors are minutes away but not as convenient as the square. Our salsa was basically soup. We were calling soupsa because it was just liquid with virtually no ingredients. Its flavor was inoffensive but very underwhelming. The queso was also a miss. Chips were good and tasted fresh. The main dishes were a mixed bag. The bowl we ordered was bland. The ground beef in a taco and burrito was overly salty but tasted good otherwise. Rice and beans had zero flavor. Another dish was also unremarkable. Edible yes but not good enough to bring us back any time soon. We were told no dogs allowed on their outdoor patio. Bit of a surprise given how dog friendly most of the villages is. This didn't factor into the review but figured I would note it in case someone is searching the reviews for dog friendly joints.

WARNING: Check your bill! Went there on a Friday around 6pm. When I was sat, it took about 15 minutes for me to even be acknowleged. First person to come was the boy serving chips. He set down the chips and some salsa, and then took the chips back and gave them to a different table that was sat after me. Then he went back to the kitchen and finally gave me chips. Weird. Then about another 5 minutes went by before I was finally greeted by a server that asked if I was ready to order before I even had a drink. Once I gave him my order it came out pretty fast, which was nice. The food was good, not great. I had guacamole and the jalisco burrito. I was only checked on once after I got my food. When I got the bill, I noticed the prices per item were higher than the menu. I'm not sure if this was because I paid by card or not because each item was higher instead of having a percentage increase at the bottom. I didn't bring it up because I just wanted to leave at that point.

Don’t you HATE when u order nachos and there’s only a mound of topping over a dry heap underneath? Or when you pay the up charge for added shrimp and there are exactly 3 on the plate? Yeah, me too and they get it, which is why my nacho plate was THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE. It was layered wonderfully and they were MORE than generous with the added shrimp. DO NOT order the Super Nachos unless you want to FALL IN LOVE. Let the empty plate speak for itself. I would’ve licked it, but I’m civilized. 5/5 Hell yeahs.

Ay Jalisco in Spanish Springs has delicious authentic food, the service is excellent! My husband and I have had dinner here every Thursday or Friday for over 2 years. Everyone at Ay Jalisco are like family, especially Ruth. We always sit at the bar for to watch college ball, golf and more. ❤️

    Our favorite in Lady Lake

  • April 22, 2026

Service was decent, food was good, the salsa was actually very tasty as Mexican restaurants go.

  • April 17, 2026

This place has gone downhill and at the same time raising prices. The food was tasteless. The salsa for the chips was so watery it just ran off the chip. So we ordered a side if queso and it was actually good. But the surprise was th $11 they charges us. Service was weak. Go any where else and you will be better off.

Ordered online. $.150 for extra add ons, totaling about $9.00 for two entrees. should have checked my food order before leaving but I didn’t. Got home none of the additions were included in the meal. I called the restaurant to arrange pickup for the missing orders. The manager says the additions are only included when you order with a server inside and not online. Will not be ordering from them again.

I really think that these are the best nachos I’ve ever had. Thanks

  • April 11, 2026

Such a nice surprise! We weren’t expecting much going in, but everything was really excellent; fresh ingredients, great flavor, and generous portions. We loved that they had outdoor seating and it wasn’t directly in the square, making it quiet and easy to talk. The service was friendly and attentive, and the whole experience was so enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back.

Kind of old and dirty. Very dark inside. There was a hair in my food and it was not my color! Would never go back. Lots of better options out there.

  • March 15, 2026

The food was great, however my dish had different meat than the menu noted. It was delish, but less steak and chicken and more pork.

  • March 15, 2026

Great food, great service. everything was awesome. Thank you

  • March 13, 2026

The worst Mexican food I have ever had. It was so bad it was funny. They charged $10.00 for some queso and charged extra for sour cream. The place was empty so we should have known better. I feel like if they would focus more on good food they wouldn’t have to charge so much for some queso and sour cream to stay in business. Reputation is everything here. Do better. I can’t imagine that they get repeat customers.

    They do a nice job!

  • March 1, 2026

Service, food, and portion size were all great. Atmosphere was alright, not the best Mexican restaurant environment I've visited, but was pleasant.

  • February 24, 2026

Everything was just ok. Not the worst place but not he best. Salsa was top notch taste but very runny. They handled the group well so we'll be back someday
