Community Rating
Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
Popularity and sanitation part ways on this listing. Reviewers who mention service rate this place 4.3 on average — it is working in the restaurant’s favour. Pacing follows at 25% of reviews, where ratings average 3.4.
If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (14 reviews). Behind those, what it costs is raised in 15% of reviews (4.7 average). Older reviews score better than newer ones (4.2 recent against 4.7 earlier), so direction is worth weighing alongside the average.
Set against that, the state's own inspection graded the kitchen an F (44/100), with 5 high-priority, 3 intermediate, and 7 basic violations recorded. Reviews describe the meal; the grade describes the conditions it was made in. DBPR last walked in on April 7, 2026. Across its inspection history the kitchen is improving, which argues for giving it the benefit of the doubt. On health score it sits safer than 2% of the Brevard County restaurants we grade. The citations behind that grade include food from approved source.
Taken together, this is a place diners like and inspectors do not. A good meal and a clean kitchen are different questions. Everything above is computed from the 20 reviews reproduced below.

Incredible local hotspot. Friendly service.

Really good dinner. Value priced. Good breakfast and lunch options. I will be back to try more. Good location on merit Island.

The food and service are always great! This place may not be new and fancy but prices are very reasonable too!

This was my first time coming here, and I didn't even get to taste the food before my husband and I decided to leave. We came in at about 12:15, we got out drinks in about 10 mins, that fine. We waited about another 15-20 minutes before a server came by to ask if we've had our order taken, we said no, and she then turned to the young man to ask if he was going to take our order. He came over took our order and went to put in the order. We waited for a pretty long time and still hadn't got out food while other tables that came in after us had gotten theirs. The woman came up to us and said the cooks never got our order, we had already waited for a pretty long time so we decided we would just pay for our drinks and leave, the woman said not to worry about paying for our drinks so we left to find somewhere else to eat. My husband has raved about this place many times, it was my first time there,l and I never even got to taste the food, so unfortunately I don't think we will be back.

The food was so good! We are glad we found a new local place, we just moved into the area. We definitely will visit as often as possible!!

Cozy diner. Food was great and quick. Service was prompt

Great tasting food (and coffee!) and very reasonably priced. As visiting Brits we wanted to support local independent restaurants/diners and Umpa’s was simply lovely. No frills, great food and we’re so glad we visited. The nod to those who have served in the US military was a nice touch, too. Wonderful that locals were able to recount their service (one chap, whose pic was on the wall from time served in Korea in the 50’s, even popped in for a coffee!). A wonderful experience.

My husband and I had breakfast here one morning. It has such a low-key vibe environment; it reminded me of a place the locals would gather for a cup of coffee. Everyone was really friendly. The food was superb! I ordered a veggie omelet and a couple of sides. My husband ordered fried eggs, bacon, and sausage gravy. We are always happy to support a veteran owned business. Highly recommended Umpa's Diner. So good!

While visiting Umpas Diner, the atmosphere was cute and had the small-town diner charm we usually enjoy. Our waitress was friendly, but she seemed a bit out of it during the visit. Another waitress—who I assumed might be the owner—came across as rude during our interaction. At one point I asked how they make their tea. I only asked because I personally don’t like when tea bags are boiled since it gives the tea a bitter taste, and I wanted to make sure so I could order something else if needed. The question seemed to be taken poorly, which was a little uncomfortable. We also waited quite a while for our food even though the diner wasn’t very busy. When the food arrived, most of it was overcooked. My bacon was actually great, but the sausage and eggs were very overdone. The eggs in particular were so overcooked that I didn’t eat them. I did politely let the waitress know the eggs were overdone and not edible. I wasn’t asking for them to be remade or for a discount, but nothing was offered or done to address it. Overall, the diner itself is cute, and we genuinely enjoy supporting small businesses and local diners. That’s exactly why we came in. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I had expected a bit more in terms of both food quality and service.

Great Friday night dinner
-
Nothing fancy, just good breakfast food at a place that is not a chain restaurant.

My new place for veterans breakfasts
-
A really excellent breakfast at 1980 prices! Super friendly staff too.
-
Really delicious breakfast. Crispy, buttery hashbrowns and maybe the best biscuit I've had in town.
-
Let me start by saying this. Ever since Shawn/Sean the current Owner took over the place from Michelle, he's taken this place to a new level. Food is now even better and the Owner is the nicest person you will meet. Highly recommended. Kenneth Smith..Signa Pay SE..Skytab POS.
