What diners say — our read

One subject runs through these 25 reviews more than any other: the staff. Front-of-house tends to be raised approvingly here, averaging 4.0 stars. Freshness and temperature is the next most common subject, in 28% of reviews (averaging 3.9).

The single most common rating left here is 5 stars (15 of 25). Of the 25 rated reviews, 18 sit at four stars or better and 5 at two or below. Speed of service shows up in 20% of reviews as well, averaging 3.8.

On the health side, the most recent DBPR inspection returned a C (76/100) with 2 high-priority, 1 intermediate, and 5 basic violations — middling, much like the reviews. The visit behind that grade was May 1, 2026. Across its inspection history the kitchen is improving, which argues for giving it the benefit of the doubt. Ranked against Lake County, it is safer than 25% of the restaurants we score. For specifics, the last inspection cited dishwashing facilities.

Neither signal is decisive on its own here, which is why both are shown. The reviews themselves follow, unedited and newest first.

There are so many great restaurants in Mount Dora you would not miss out on anything by skipping this one. The food is average. The price points are absurd for what you are actually being served. Our waitress Anya was great. She was very sweet and knowledgeable and made an effort to make our experience special, but the food was not memorable in any way and we won’t return.

We dined at 1921 Mount Dora with a large group, and they handled it with ease. I’m a vegetarian, and my meal was excellent, they told us almost all the veggies are local farm fresh, and you could tell. Others had various beef dishes, which came with a unique touch, the owner explained much of it was sourced from a local high school FFA project. The entire evening was thoughtful, with attention to detail in both the food and the hospitality. The dessert they said was made fresh in the kitchen from their pastry chef!

It's our favorite place to go for date nights and special occasions. The menu rotation always provides something fresh and new to experience. We just found out that 1921 is being considered for a Michelin rating

Patrick the bartender was absolutely awesome food was great only thing was the blueberry cobbler had almost no cobbler and for $15 give me some more cobbler please the fries were so freaking delicious

We've been for dinner several times and previously had great experiences. Completely different experience sitting at the bar for cocktails and dessert. The rude and inattentive bar staff led to us regretting our decision to seek out this particular spot for our night cap. Save your money and hit up a dive bar for the same quality cocktail as what's served here. You might even get better service too.

I dont even know how to begin, i will start by our waitress Annie, she went beyond to accommodate my beer taste, she gave me samples, she helped towards the right direction, the food was an amazing explosion of flavors, the braised ribs were very good, the burrata was also a nice choice, the pork ribs were so good, the octopus also a must try. We were a difficult to please bunch and left this restaurant totally satisfied. Thank you Annie for your nice welcome to this place.

This restaurant has a fun eclectic look. Option to purchase art sitting on the wall. Went to the restaurant for a special occasion. I tried the Fig bourbon drink and it was delicious. The oysters were absolutely delicious. I decided to go did the burger, it did not disappoint!!! Literally one of the best burgers I’ve tried! Staff was attentive and friendly. Wonderful for date night.

Always love sitting at the bar at 1921. All of the food and service has been wonderful. The one item that was not up to par was taken off the bill when it was noticed that very little of it was eaten. Was there tonight and cannot wait to go back. The menu is always changing so what ever is listed on the site is not guaranteed to be there. Farm to table! 🙏

Beautiful place with delicious options! This is the perfect place for date nights or anniversary dinners. Update: we had lunch as family today and they did not disappoint! The atmosphere was amazing! The staff was friendly and attentive! Great restaurant in beautiful Downtown Mount Dora area!

I made a reservation here with family for mother's day. The menu looked great online and the reviews seemed to paint a picture of a many well done dishes. Well, unfortunately that was not the case with our experience. We ordered two carrpt soups, two vegetable plates, the cobia and the ribeye. The carrot soup tasted heabily of a curry soup. It was good but there was no carrot flavor. The vegetable plates had zero seasoning. I mean ZERO. Not even salt. They tasted like they picked the vegetables from the ground, through them in a pan for a few minutes and put them on the plate. They were also undercooked and the carrots and squash were still very crunchy. The fried mushroom pieces were the best part of that dish. The farro at the bottom was well cooked but also extremely underseasoned. This was the same with both dishes. The cobia was very well cooked and well seasoned. However, the rest of the dish was a bit disappointing. It was served over of few scoops of diced beets and a smear of beet puree. That's it. That's the dish. The beet pieces were bitter and didn't seem to pair well with the cobia ans savory sauce on the top at all. My husband's ribeye was the best dish. He said it was not the best he's had but was well cooked and the potatoes were tasty. Hard to mess up steak and potatoes. We all enjoy all kinds of cuisines and flavors from around the world and enjoying many styles of cooking. However, this meal seemed to mis the mark. The menu had today's date printed on it…

Oh, yes. Mushrooms. Olives. Shrimp. Ani might be our new all-time fave server. Exceptional food and service. So glad we checked it out!

Excellent food but service was slow and the place wasn't busy

We love a dog friendly patio, and this one loves dogs so much they have a statue out front. They have excellent wines, even on happy hour, and their food is delicious. Shout out to Darcy for excellent service!

מנה אחת הייתה מעולה, השניה פחות. סה"כ מקום נחמד מאוד. הכיסאות בחלל המרכזי, היו נמוכים ביחס לשולחן. ישיבה לא נוחה.

Spectacular upscale, modern restaurant for a gourmet experience in Mount Dora. I went for my 60th birthday and was gladly impresed that the menu was printed with a "Happy birthday" message in my honor! The works of art are a very nice bonus. The food is almost worth a Michelin star: The perfection of the steak and duck, and the wonderful meat and cheese platter with jams, mustards and pâte, are out of this world. It reminded me of the time I had dinner 35 years ago at the Paul Bocuse restaurant in Lyon. The prices may seem high, but it's worth every dollar! The list of wine, cocktails and spirits is impressive. Our server, Chris, was very helpful and didn't miss any detail. Impeccable service. Applause for Chef Chris Edwards and sous chef, Jose Fabre. I was very happy to have chosen this lovely, historical place for my birthday: unforgettable experience.

Drinks were great. Appetizers (grilled oysters) were delicious, I'd do them again and I'm not an oyster person. I also got a curry onion soup which came out cold the first time but they replaced it no problem. Entrees were okay (underseasoned for my taste), not as good as the appetizers or drinks but still good. Overall a good experience being so close, and I will visit again.

Had the wahoo fish was overcooked. Ordered their bread it was stale, dessert chocolate cake was also very dry. Second time there first time was great second time not so much

  • April 19, 2026

Made a reservation for a birthday dinner. Arrived on time and was seated in the bar area at a high top when there were tables available in the dining room area. But we did not say anything. Server came up and did not introduce herself or make any conversation other than offering drinks. We asked about the menu and she could not answer some of our questions. We both ended up ordering the Wahoo. It was a tiny piece of fish, very dry with the skin still on. The description mentioned white beets, which were not included and the greens were bland.Overall, it was an expensive disappointment and we will not return.

Had a delicious dinner! The cheese board was amazing, and the rolls were definitely the yummiest part of the meal. Everything was fresh and flavorful, highly recommend!

    Place is solid.great cocktails

  • April 3, 2026

This was a disappointing experience across both service and food, especially at this price point. Service was disorganized from the start. Our hostess doubled as our waitress and never introduced herself. The experience felt unstructured and inattentive throughout. There were multiple execution issues with the food. A pizza from the kids’ menu came out with chives on it and had to be remade, basic attention to detail was missing. My wife’s medium Wagyu burger arrived with a completely soaked bun. A properly prepared burger should rest before being plated to avoid exactly that. This felt rushed. I ordered the $165 “Wagyu × Platinum” 16 oz ribeye, and it was the biggest disappointment of the night. The steak was chewy and lacked the tenderness expected from anything labeled Wagyu. The presentation also didn’t match the price point, heavy sauce pooling on the plate and an overall unrefined look. There were also inconsistencies on the plate. The carrots were overly charred rather than properly glazed, while char appeared on bok choy from a different dish that nobody at our table ordered. That points to a lack of control in the kitchen. When we raised concerns, we were polite and simply asked to have the items removed. We then waited approximately 20 minutes for resolution while being told the manager was dealing with another issue. Waiting that long especially with a six-year-old at the table is unacceptable. While some items were removed, the overall handling of the situation…
