What diners say — our read

Diners writing about this place keep returning to how guests are treated. Reviewers who mention how guests are treated rate this place 4.4 on average — it is working in the restaurant’s favour. Speed of service follows at 44% of reviews, where ratings average 4.4.

The split is 12 positive to 2 negative across 16 rated reviews, with 2 in the middle. 5 stars is the modal score, given by 9 of the 16 reviewers who rated. A third strand, freshness and temperature, appears in 38% of them at 3.8 stars.

None of that is visible in a star rating: the most recent DBPR inspection graded this kitchen an F (59/100), citing 3 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 11 basic violations. Diner sentiment and inspection result are measuring different things here, and only one of them is checked by the state. That inspection was on April 6, 2026. Ranked against Volusia County, it is safer than 4% of the restaurants we score. Among the items recorded were food from approved source and cross-contamination.

Taken together, this is a place diners like and inspectors do not. A good meal and a clean kitchen are different questions. Everything above is computed from the 16 reviews reproduced below.

I came to The Garlic on 6/27/26. I put my name on the list and they told me it would be a hour and 10 min wait. Today is 6/29/26 and I’m still waiting.

This place is a must-do. It's a no reservation, hour wait - sure. But there's a bar and a vibe and you can drink it all in. Then you have the smell. Oh gosh the wonderful garlic smell. It's like Nona's hug was a smell...even without having a Nona...you're getting her hug here. Then the food. Get the meat wrapped in bacon. Get the lamb lollipops. Get the Salmon. Get a pasta. Get it all. You'll leave in a food coma but it's okay. You still smell like it so it isn't like you have to really say goodbye until you shower. The wine by the glass was too warm. That's my only inconsequential negative thought. I'd just stick to a beer next time or just a nice tea.

Visiting from out of town and heard some good things about The Garlic, it was a great restaurant with great food. Taylor, our waitress was amazing as well. I definitely recommend this place. Loved the calamari, chicken parm and the NY strip steak. The ceaser salad was fantastic, as was the roasted garlic for the bread.

Absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was incredible, and the service was top-notch. A group of us came in after a day at the beach and grabbed seats at the bar. Darren, Cooper, and the rest of the bartending team were amazing — friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back soon! Now… the food! If you’re visiting on a Saturday or Sunday (until they run out), the Lasagna is an absolute must. It’s only available those days, and it did not disappoint. The bruschetta was also fantastic and a perfect way to start the meal. The photos honestly don’t do the food justice — the lighting inside is low, but that’s part of what makes The Garlic such a unique experience. The ambiance is incredible, and the atmosphere is warm, inviting, and memorable. One of my favorite places in New Smyrna Beach to enjoy a great meal, especially when you’re craving something hearty and delicious. Can’t wait to come back!

I have always enjoyed the garlic. Went there last night what a dissapointment. I had the chicken marsala. It was badly presesnted it looked like slop on mash potatoes . The first time time the potatoes were cold, they were lumpy, the chicken wasnt pounded out and the marsala tasted like a sweet cheap sherry. The Garlic needs to stop standing on thier past laurels and get thier kitchen in order. It wasnt even its normal busy.

Really unique spot with a very rustic/inviting ambiance that included live music at low volume. Food was really good and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

One of the best meals I've had. We were very pleasantly surprised. The fresh baked garlic with bread OMG. We also shared the calamari app, ravioli (to die for) and took a piece of the carrot cake to go (insane).

To me, if I am going to spend over $30 for an Italian meal, it should be one theost delicious that put in my mouth. The food was good, but not near as good as local places near my house, for literally half the price. Thus, my 3 star rating for the food. Now, if you don't mind paying over 30 for one entree at the risk of flavor not reaching that bar, the atmosphere of the restaurant was one of the best all time, and service was good. Be prepared to wait for a table.

Are meal at the garlic was very good. Everyone in are party had an amazing time. Are waiter, lucky made the whole meal an experience he was so nice the first time we had him we called ahead just to see if he would be working. Lucky takes your meal at the garlic to a whole other level he explained the specials on the meal so well we had no questions. Again the food was also amazing. New favorite restaurant. Phenomenal service along with amazing tasting food. The most unique atmosphere that offers an absolutely unforgettable experience.

  • June 19, 2026

HOT! HOT!HOT! not a place to go unless it's cool weather. Chicken Marsala was mushy and served over potatoes(??) Salad is all funky lettuce unless you pay extra for ceasar, Eggplant was mushy (what's going on Garlic?!) but the only way to get meatballs which were good by themselves.Fettucine was good, pea/prosciutto good but so very rich, Spaghetti was bland. Could not ask for ANY deviation from the menu. They are more focused on getting you in and out. disappointed.....but server was good......

The atmosphere is what you go for here. For value, the food is ok. The service is ok. The atmosphere is absolutely unique and magical. ✨️

Went for the first time to celebrate my birthday with family and it was such a great experience. We went on a weekday around 6 pm and had no wait. There was live jazz music and we shared multiple apps and entrees to try out a few different things. We left with SO MUCH FOOD. I could go for just the apps and drinks alone. Tip: ask for a booth. The high top chairs are not comfortable for long periods of time and our legs were killing all of us by the end of dinner. But I would still sit at a high top again if it was the only option.
