MAXINE'S ON SHINE
Direction matters as much as the letter. MAXINE'S ON SHINE sits at a B (89/100) today, but its inspections have been getting cleaner, not messier — an improving trend a single grade can't show.
It currently ranks safer than 40% of Orange County restaurants we grade. The most recent report (February 18, 2026) still cited 2 intermediate and 5 basic violations, so there's room to climb. Diner rating: 4.6 from 2,186 reviews. Menus here flag options for vegan, vegetarian, and healthy diners.

The recurring subject in this corpus is front-of-house, not the food in general. Reviewers who mention the staff rate this place 4.4 on average — it is working in the restaurant’s favour. After that, freshness appears most often — 27% of the corpus, averaging 3.7.
What nobody raises here is tidiness — it goes unmentioned across all 22 reviews. More reviewers landed on 5 stars than any other score — 16 of 22. 18 of 22 rated reviews are four stars or higher; 1 are two or lower.
On the health side, the most recent DBPR inspection returned a B (89/100) with 2 intermediate and 5 basic violations — middling, much like the reviews. That result dates from February 18, 2026. The trend across inspections is improvement. That puts it ahead of 40% of graded kitchens in Orange County. What the inspector actually wrote up: cross-contamination and in-use food dispensing utensils properly stored.
Both measures agree, which is the least complicated version of this page. The underlying reviews are reproduced in full underneath.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor within the restaurant. The service was pretty great and welcoming. I must say it was very hot and humid inside the establishment while I was was enjoying brunch. The food looked good and was pretty tasty aswell.

I liked the place. Somehow its in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Parking is 9n the street, usually adjacent side streets. No biggie. Interesting food choices. All excellent choices. The fried green tomatoes are great. I had the cheese burger and fries. It came with an egg on top ( in Asia they always came that way. You'll love it). Unfortunately, the extra thick bacon was EXTREMLY salty. I had to remove it. The burger and fries were also way to salty for me. The other 2 people I was with also had cheeseburgers. They also thought it was to salty, but 1 ate his. Ne and the 2nd glcould not because of to much salt. I brought mine home and will wash the burger and bacon then air fry it and hope for the best. I truly belive most everyth8ng else will not be like this. I do 0lan 9n returning. My other 2 friends eat there frequently and say this is a 1st for them. *** RESPONSE TO OWNERS COMMENT*** Your staff was EXCELLENT. Steve asked SEVERAL times if food was okay. I think another guy did also. I truly believe thus was a 1 time thing. Ill be back. My 2 friends go often. I didnt complain because I liked everything else and didn't want to rock the boat. Usually im very vocal if I dont like the food. I just wanted to make you aware to see it wont happen again. Im sure my next visit will be 5 star.

There simply aren't enough stars to rate our experience at Maxine's yesterday. Maxine's is so much more than a restaurant; it's an unforgettable experience. From the charming atmosphere to the personal touches, like remembering your name and the little details that make you feel truly welcomed, every moment feels special. One of the highlights of the brunch was when Kirt came to our table and performed slam poetry. It absolutely made our daughter's year and created a memory we'll never forget. The food was exceptional. Every dish was beautifully prepared, and every bite was absolutely delicious. If you have the opportunity, request a table on the patio. The outdoor seating is fantastic, creating the perfect setting for an amazing meal. They even bring a personal AC unit to your table to keep you comfortable on warm Florida evenings! Maxine's has mastered the art of hospitality, entertainment, and incredible cuisine. We can't wait to come back.

Maxine's is a quirky & fun place! The ambiance, delicious food & top-notch service made it a must visit if you have not been. And it is in a beautiful historic neighborhood as well. We will definitely be back!

Second visit, and it just keeps getting better! This was our second time at Maxine’s on Shine, and we were excited to return after thoroughly enjoying the beef carpaccio on our first visit. It was so memorable that it became the main reason we came back. This time, we celebrated my son-in-law’s birthday on Friday, and the experience exceeded all expectations. The food was absolutely wonderful—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service was outstanding. Our waiter, Tom, was extremely attentive and made sure we wanted for nothing throughout the evening. As a special surprise, one of the owners stopped by our table, provided us with drinks, and personally toasted my son-in-law for his birthday. It was a very nice, heartfelt touch that made the celebration even more special. Everything about the evening felt warm, welcoming, and upscale without being stuffy. We left completely satisfied and will definitely be back in the very near future. If you’re looking for excellent food, great service, and that personal touch, Maxine’s on Shine is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

We went for Father’s Day brunch and our server Dana was fabulous, the ambiance is unique and very fun! My husband and daughter got a mimosa and sangria and enjoyed them. The food was good, but not exceptional. I’d say standard fare with our favorite part being the biscuits (for the price you can find better, again not bad, but not great, we pretty much finished our plates but I honestly think that had more to do with getting our moneys worth). My daughter and I each got the vegetarian omelet and my husband got the lobster roll and wished he had drawn butter and found the coleslaw to be pretty much cabbage either not soaked in the base long enough and as a coleslaw lover he was disappointed. Passing along the helpful info below by another reviewer you may want to take cash to avoid the credit card surcharge (not a slam on the business, we understand the reason behind it).

Awesome set of people. From the staff to the owners. Made us feel so welcomed. Thanks for giving my wife a birthday toast. The owner is such a wordsmith. Dropping bars all night. Great experience and food.

Very intimate atmosphere, our waitress was awesome and talented. Her artwork was showcased on the walls at the time. We started with "cheese cigars" omg...so good. We were fighting over the last one, so get 2 orders! The lobster ravioli with REAL lobster, the steak with mushroom sauce with also really good. You could tell the dessert was homemade, apple cobbler..which is a good thing! Maxine is delightful and makes sure every guest felt welcome.. Definitely going back again soon.

Food was exceptional as was the service. Highly recommend 👌

Finally got to make it over here for a meal with Bite 30 event. Really left unimpressed and underwhelmed. Portions for appetizers and dessert were a joke. Main meal decent size. We’ve never left a Bite 30 still hungry. Pasta dishes had good flavor. I had the steak meal. Glad I ordered it medium rare so that when it came out past medium I could at least still eat it. Server never came back so I could show him until we were done. It was charred well but lack flavor or seasoning. Even a bit of salt would have made a huge difference. Carrots and green beans tasted very good in season but were undercooked. More like blanched at best. Sauce on tops of steak lacked flavor also. Saw several dropping salt all over the meal. As should I. Inside was hot as heck. Maybe borrow some fans from outside to add some air movement. Drinks and beer are overpriced also. To many other good places to go to for a better meal.

My new favorite restaurant and Tom was incredible thanks for amazing service BTW Maxine thanks for the invitation on the walk and wine make our anniversary was amazing

The cheese cigars are by far my absolute favorite thing on this menu. Please keep them on the menu always. I have never had a bad experience or meal while visiting this restaurant for the past decade.

I want to preface this by saying I enjoyed my time at Maxine's, the owner came by the table and was fantastic and welcoming. The drinks we're fantastic & I loved em but my only gripe was the braised brisket and egg combo I had for breakfast. My brisket was soggy & not as flavorful as I'd expected while the eggs weren't as cheesy after having that added. Normally I send dishes back if I don't like what I'm but the conversation & enjoyment I was having with my friend made me forget about the dish. I am willing to return to try Maxine's again for Bite 30, I won't be trying the braised brisket breakfast dish again.

I’ve been here quite a few times, and I absolutely LOVE being here every time!! Kurt and Maxine are FANTASTIC, and all their staff are as well! The food is always tasty and cooked well!! And the atmosphere is always a joy to be in.

A must do! Delicious food. Excellent service. Whimsical atmosphere.

Did the Bite30 menu, the fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese was perfect.

I love this place. I always get the chicken and waffles on Sunday. Highly recommend going here.

Came here on a Sunday for brunch. Great food, service, and atmosphere. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
-
food selection and quality is very good, service was outstanding, atmosphere is good but the place is small and does not lend itself to a live musician. it was hard to talk while he was playing.
-
Friendly staff with outstanding service. Food was served fast accurate and was delicious. Atmosphere was charming and eclectic.

I recently went to Maxine’s on Shine for a brunch date, and it had been years since my last visit. My date made reservations, which I highly recommend because it does get busy. We got lucky and found street parking nearby, which was a plus. It was a hot day, so we chose to sit inside where they had a nice live performance going on the atmosphere was definitely a vibe. Our waiter, Steve, was great and attentive, starting us off with water right away. I ordered the Sangriato, which was pretty good. For food, my date ordered the steak & eggs and I went with the shrimp omelet, both served with potatoes and a biscuit. Unfortunately, my meal was just okay something about it didn’t quite hit for me. On the other hand, my date enjoyed his meal enough to take the rest to go. Overall, the service and ambiance were really nice, but the food was a bit of a hit or miss for me this time around.
