MCKENNA'S PLACE SEAFOOD SPORTS AND SPIRITS
MCKENNA'S PLACE SEAFOOD SPORTS AND SPIRITS is a 4.5-star room with a D-grade kitchen — the kind of gap a star rating will never warn you about, which is the whole reason this page exists.
That D comes from 3 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 10 basic violations cited on January 26, 2026. It currently ranks safer than 5% of Volusia County restaurants we grade — close to the bottom of the county. And the direction isn't reassuring: its recent inspections have been sliding, not recovering. If you want the flavor with fewer question marks, the safer-options list below maps higher-graded kitchens within a short drive.

Community Rating
Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
This listing's ratings cluster at the two ends of the scale. Opinion on how guests are treated is split — those reviews land at 3.9 on average.
5 stars is the modal score, given by 13 of the 19 reviewers who rated. Conspicuously absent: freshness and temperature, which no reviewer brings up. The split is 14 positive to 4 negative across 19 rated reviews, with 1 in the middle.
None of that is visible in a star rating: the most recent DBPR inspection graded this kitchen a D (60/100), citing 3 high-priority, 2 intermediate, and 10 basic violations. Diner sentiment and inspection result are measuring different things here, and only one of them is checked by the state. That inspection was on January 26, 2026. The trend across inspections is decline. Ranked against Volusia County, it is safer than 5% of the restaurants we score. Among the items recorded were food from approved source and potentially hazardous foods properly thawed.
The practical read: people enjoy eating here, and the kitchen still failed its last inspection. Those are separate claims, and only the second one gets checked by anybody. Everything above is computed from the 19 reviews reproduced below.

This place is was AWESOME! Justin was great very helpful and knowledgeable. They have several gluten-free options. The best one is the grilled cheese sandwich (very hard to find). They have dedicated fryers and are very careful with food allergies. Not only did we have great food, we also got to enjoy karaoke. Very fun atmosphere highly recommend.

We walked in and they had karaoke going and vibe was fun! We sat down to order and were greeted right away. I am celiac so i was excited about the gluten free options and it certainly did not disappoint. Our waiter Justin was very knowledgeable on the menu & made sure my food was cooked following all precautions. I had the breaded shrimp which was nice & crunchy. I also had the grilled cheese which let me tell ya, it tasted like heaven! it was buttery, cheesy & had crunch! My daughter found this place on Tiktok & i wish we knew about it sooner.

Great place with even better food! I got the Blackened Chicken Alfredo, which was so good. My Celiac Mother got Grilled Cheese and Breaded Shrimp, All Gluten free! Our Waiter, Justin, was friendly and went above and beyond<3

Love the food here, prices arent bad. Had fried shrimp and it was very lightly breaded. LOVE THAT. It was karaoke night, so, that kind sucked but some people were impressive and having a good time.

I sat at the bar for lunch not another person in the place. Other came in as and was waited on while I sat and sat nobody came to wait on me I left. This was the second time this has happened to me there. The first the owner came running down the sidewalk to apologise. We ended going in again at another time but I’m pretty sure I’m done there. Wait and wait for just a so so food. The staff needs a tune up there

We usually go to NSB location and decided to try this one. Crab legs were good as usual but crab cakes had chunks of carrots and celery for some reason this time. Was not a nice surprise, I much prefered the old recipe.

Local Port Orange food. Delicious and service is always excellent.
-
Shaun absolutely killed it with the wings. Perfect crunch, cooked just right, and he even made me a special sauce that was insanely good. Super polite, professional, and made the whole experience better. You can tell he cares about the food and the customers. Definitely coming back because of him.

Service was okay. Food didn't come the way we ordered. Waitress gave me a line of excuses. Won't be back.
-
Wonderful experience start to finish. Justin B was awesome. Came for the gluten free menu and it did not disappoint!!
-
I have been gluten free for 14 years and sometimes I google places that over gluten free options. I saw this place and since that day I have ordered 3 times without any problems. I'm so very thankful for a new place to go and I can now feel like a regular person gong out to eat instead of trying to piece together items on a menu!!😀😍💯👏🎊🎉

Great place. Always stop when we are in that area as we live in Ormond by the Sea. Wish they would come up here!
-
Very happy with the food and service. It has a great local feel. The owner is very nice. We enjoy karaoke night.
-
We had a large group show up and take over the place and they were excellent in their service and quality of food! Thank you so much

Place is top notch
-
Excellent fish & chips, ahi tuna, clam chowder, & the peanut butter pie. A++++. Owner visited with us. Svc was awesome.
-
Lobster meat was old, onion rings were so salty they burned my tongue. So bad they serve the end of a tomato rind! Third try never again!
-
The server was fab....the food was really gross bar food. My friend went there years ago and said it was pretty good, well the shrimp were tiny and over cooked. Would never go back.
