Reviews via GoogleWhat diners say — our read
53% of reviews here touch on service, more than any other theme. Service tends to be raised approvingly here, averaging 4.3 stars. After that, pacing appears most often — 24% of the corpus, averaging 4.5.
If you had to pick one number to represent this corpus it would be 5, the most frequently given rating (13 reviews). A third strand, freshness, appears in 18% of them at 5.0 stars. Newer reviews score better than older ones (5.0 recent against 4.6 earlier), so direction is worth weighing alongside the average.
The kitchen graded a C (73/100) on 2 high-priority and 11 basic violations at its last inspection, which is roughly where the reviews sit too. DBPR last walked in on March 10, 2026. Across its inspection history the kitchen is declining, which argues for reading the older reviews with caution. Ranked against Orange County, it is safer than 10% of the restaurants we score. The citations behind that grade include cross-contamination.
The honest summary is that the evidence is mixed on both sides. Everything above is computed from the 17 reviews reproduced below.

My first time here this place was not good. Few years later my wife said let's give it another shot and we went in last night. Did not regret it for sure. I do believe this place is under new ownership and you can see the difference. I would not have come here few years ago but now I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! Great food great service.

Delicious. We had 2 cocktails, a rice dish, and chicken bulgolgi - everything was delicious. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Malaysian roti appetizer is rly good!! Also recommend the lo mein !
-
This food is really good! The roti carai is amazing and the peanut sauce is good, especially when paired with the tofu or lettuce wrap. Highly recommend for a unique experience.

All you need to do is show up. Best Asian Street Food with the best quality and price. The service is one of a kind. The environment was noisy but the value made up for it.
-
The food is fresh and approachable. Justin was very attentive and super friendly with my 79 year old mother.
-
Food was incredible but the service was a bit slow. 1 star for atmosphere because the yellow metal chairs are NOT big person friendly which made for a very uncomfortable experience.

Amazing food with great wait times

Please do not go to this place. I gave this place a second chance but I was right service is terrible food not good and attitude to make you feel welcome and spend money extremely nauseous … minus zero !!!

We had a wonderful experience! Our amazing waiter, Cooper, took his time and made sure we enjoyed the food, drinks, and dessert. Atmosphere was almost ethereal with nice lighting and contrasted nicely with the aesthetic of the venue. I would have given him 20 stars! I most definitely had a great time and would love to eat here in the future. Any Malaysian dinners would recommend Cooper to be your waiter!

Food was spectacular today all around. It’s a great experience coming at 11:00 being the first customers. PAIGE is a phenomenon server who is kind, fun, proactive, efficient and wonderful. Been here many times…today was outstanding again. Thanks’

went to Mamak on a Monday around 6 PM and the place was already pretty packed, which is always a good sign. I ordered the Chicken Satay skewers, the Mamak Nasi Goreng, and split the Crispy Pork Belly with a friend and everything exceeded my expectations. The Crispy Pork Belly was the standout. Perfectly seasoned, tender on the inside, and fire‑roasted until the outside was golden and crunchy. Not fatty at all, just that ideal crisp bite. It paired beautifully with the dipping sauce (pretty sure it was hoisin), which added the right amount of sweetness and depth. The Chicken Satay skewers were another hit. The chicken was incredibly moist, fall‑off‑the‑skewer tender, and full of herby flavor. The peanut sauce that came with it was so good I asked for extra , it was rich, creamy, and balanced. The Mamak Nasi Goreng was classic comfort. Wok‑fried with shrimp, chicken, eggs, and onions, topped with fried shallots and scallions. Flavorful, smoky, and satisfying without being greasy. For the quality and portions, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. I honestly expected it to be more expensive given how good everything was. Overall, Mamak delivered on flavor, texture, and value. I'd absolutely come back and try more dishes.
